Hello!
We are on week 8 of our European adventure and are currently in Norway. We spent the most amazing week in the Lofoten Islands in the North of Norway and it had so much to offer us. Even though we were in the ‘off season’ the views were spectacular, there were plenty of free park ups available and hikes/walks, little shops and more were all still available. It is IDEAL for doing Vanlife all year round, but that’s just my opinion. We didn’t want to leave. We were spoilt with 3 days in the cabin and seeing the Aurora, but then to spend another few days on the island was equally as amazing. By the time we got on the ferry to travel to Bodo on the mainland, I was bummed out. I felt sure that the rest of Norway would also have lots to offer but we had fallen in love with the arctic circle in Sweden, then drove to Norway on the most phenomenal roads, bridges and mountain passes and THEN spent the week in Lofoten….. nothing could top this.
I am happy to be wrong in this instance! The rest of Norway has been DELICIOUS and we are definitely loving it. Don’t get me wrong, I feel like we are still yearning for the tranquillity of the mountains and islands but we have not been disappointed in the mountains and fjords of the mainland. At the time of writing, we are currently in Gerainger Fjord, one of the most beautiful in Norway! We are staying on a campsite tonight then will be wild/stealth camping for a couple of nights as we slowly make our way down the country towards Bergen.
Over the last week or so we have really enjoyed driving through Norway between Bodo and Trondheim. We have had many views of the amazing waterfalls and Fjords, but were also treated to the centre of the Arctic Circle (and ironically, the Arctic Circle Centre) enjoyed park ups next to rocky rivers, Stor Fjord and more, played in the snow, hiked in cities and watched wild Moose run in the forest. We also had a minor breakdown (a flat tyre), visited museums and experienced ALL weathers and all temperatures. Norway is beautiful, vast and has a rich landscape; one that we have thoroughly enjoyed.
Going forward, we are excited to take a fjord cruise in Gerainger tomorrow and after that spending a little time doing some wild camping. After this, we will be heading down to Bergen to do some more city stuff and keeping an eye out on the way for more wild Moose! For now, we will enjoy the peace of the campsite we are on in the mountains, listening to the stream and the rain and allowing the dogs to play in the snow for a little longer.
